A Whole Seven Weeks! Part Four

Good Friday, 18 April 2014

The next week didn't see too much out of the ordinary hapenning.
Pa had a blood test done. He has usual monthly ones.
He also needed some done before he had a treatment at Hutt Hospital the next week.

I spent time during the week re-making Locket's Barefoot costume.
She was performing her Barefoot in the Rosewood Competition on the Saturday.
I got it all finished by the Friday.

Saturday we headed off early to the competition.
Ariel, who is now teaching for L Dance Studio came with us.
Locket danced well but didn't place.
She is a tough cookie and although disappointed still competes.

On the same day Brains had a Hip Hop competition with Pump Dance
I arranged for K's parents to get Brains out to the comp.
It was also in the Hutt but they didn't have to be there till 11.30am.

Once Locket had finished and we had her report we headed on home.
We dropped Ariel home and then went to see if Miss Lisa was at home.
She was, as was Estelle, so we visited for a while.
Then home for a few hours.
Around 5pm we went back to the Hutt to watch the Hip Hop comp.
We didn't have tickets so I wanted to get there early to ensure we were close to first in the queue.
We were :)
The boys crew danced well and have improved since last year.
Tough competition though.

Thankfully the boys had the next day, Sunday, off from their usual crew practise.

Monday 7 April I met one of the ladies from my Life Group at Cafe Thyme next to Twigland.
Sophia and I got to know each other a bit more.
We're both shy people and prefer one-on-one.
Or small groups where we know the people well.
I enjoyed the time I spent with Sophia.

Tuesday 8 April was Locket's 14th birthday!

You are such a beautiful young girl, growing up so quickly!
Very precious to us all :)
Our usual tradition: Locket got to choose what I made for dinner.
Butter Chicken. . .Yum!

Wednesday morning Pa had his Aclasta Infusion.
This was done at Hutt Hospital.
Quite a quick procedure really.
Around 30 minutes for the drug to go in.
I'd arranged for Locket to be picked up to go to the last photography group.
Wellington Chocolate Factory is where they went this time.
They also took some photos in Cuba Street
I picked Locket up at 2.30.

Thursday saw Brains working. . .sort of!
One of our friends who home-educates has two boys.
Pete had the chance of a work contract.
However before he applied he wanted someone to supervise the boys.
Pete approached Brains about supervising them a few weeks ago.
We hadn't heard anything so thought perhaps he hadn't got the job.
Then Brains got a call.
Which would be the best days for him to supervise the boys?
Brains said Thursday and Friday.
Then we heard Pete had the job.
So this was the first time they came to be supervised.
Jirair and Nicholai brought lots of books with them.
They also spent time creating with Lego, playing computer games, playing Risk and generally just chilling out.
When it was time to go to dance we took them with us and they waited for Pete at the studio.

Friday Jirair and Nicholai were with us again.
We met at the studio once more as Brains and Locket had a practise to go over their solos and the group dances for the Dance Art Competition.
Pete and the boys watched some of the rehearsal.
I mentioned to them that it was free entry and later they came to watch some of the dancing.
They saw Locket dancing but missed Brains who had performed earlier.
Brains hasn't done a solo comp in a few years.
He was entered into this one under duress.
Miss Lisa told him he was doing it.
Brains performed a contemporary piece, and very well too.
He was competing against about 17 others.
Some weren't there that night.
When they announced the placings Brains came First!!
He was suprised, we were pleased and proud.
Ariel came to this comp, as did her mum.
Estelle also came as she wanted to cheer them on.

Locket danced very well. . .but again, no placing :(
She handles it very well although she is disappointed.

Saturday saw us doing a bit of shopping.
Supplies for Locket's "Birthday Function".
Also for the family dinner that was on that evening.
Estelle and Nellie came over and the girls hung out for a while.
Low key, food & chatting.
The last party I do is 13years.
After that they need to organise something if they want it.

I sorted the tops for their Trio the next day.
Also got the chickens roasting. Big ones they were, size 30.
But we were feeding a crowd so needed them.
Everyone was there at some point of the night.
Estelle stayed for the meal and I took her home afterwards.

It was lovely to have everyone here, even if some had gone home and others arrived later.
I'd made some GF Banana Choc Chip muffins and so we used them for the cake.
Usually it is a GF sponge!

Sunday morning we went to church.
Nellie came with us as she usually goes into the city to church.
It made more sense for her to come with us then we could go straight to the comp.

Smurfette came to watch and Boar made it in time to see the girls too.
Also Miss Lisa's mum and a few friends. It was great to have supporters there.

The Trio of Locket, Estelle and Nellie was on first.
Then the Ballet group.
Then the Hip Hop group.
In their different sections.

The Trio placed First.
Their own choreography. A lot of it Locket's.
You should have heard the girls squeal when they heard the result!
First time dancing together in a comp.

The Ballet group placed Second.
Again we were thrilled. Although I think Miss Lisa thinks we should have been placed first!

The Hip Hop group.
Well, to begin with we thought we hadn't placed at all.
It wasn't till we got the report we realised we came Third
Out of 14 groups. First performance.
Again the kids own choreography.

And to top it all off. . .
Brains was given a special award.
Encouragement Award 15+ Years
There wasn't even one listed in the programme!
The only downer was that Brains pulled his left Hamstring when he dropped into a jazz split.
Didn't seem as bad as the right one he pulled.
Here's hoping it isn't.

Still a very sucessful weekend.
We were all very happy with the results.
For Miss Lisa and the studio it is a good start to comps.
For Locket. . .she was buzzing for hours over "My first 1st place!"
