A Whole Seven Weeks! Part Three

Good Friday, 18 April 2014

Monday 17 March Brains, Locket and I went back to the dentist.
First time Locket has had to have a filling there and she handled it well.
Mine was done first and wasn't as bad as I or the dentist expected.
Brains went next, then Locket.
We all walked out with numb mouths!
Usually on a Monday Locket has been going to home-ed choir.
Today she didn't as she would not have been able to sing very well!

Tuesday 18 saw us visiting the Asthma nurse at Johnsonville Medical Centre
Our local Drs surgery where I've been going since I was pregnant with A-M Prof.
Brains developed asthma a couple of years ago.
Locket has a bit of excercise induced asthma.
They are both doing well and the nurse was impressed with their spacer technique.
The one the kids use is similar to the one in this picture.
They have to press the inhaler then breathe in 6 times. Then the same again.
It is better than using just the inhaler.

The next day, Wednesday, one of my oldest friends came to visit.
A was part of the 5 of us who met on Sunday.
She had organised the get together.
Whenever she comes over from Oz she always visits.
A was my bridesmaid. I did a reading at her wedding.
We always have a good talk when we get together.
No matter if we haven't seen each other in a couple of years.
We just pick up where we left off.
A has been training as a radiologist.
Pretty brave to re-train in your mid-forties!
I got permission for A to watch Brains & Locket's classes.
She has never seen them dance and really enjoyed it.
Afterwards she came back for some dinner and we chatted the night away.
I think she left around midnight :)

Friday 21st March was Halfpint's 2nd birthday.
This is for you Halfpint!

We didn't see Halfpint that day.
We were going to his BBQ birthday party the next day.

During the afternoon we went to visit a friend.
Brains is wanting to get a qualification.
A high school type qualification.
We've looked at various options.
Correspondence School which he could do as an adult student.
Cambridge exams, A.C.E or

In the end we were leaning towards A.C.E.
Before we made a final decision I wanted Brains to find out exactly what was involved.
C has been using A.C.E with her older children since the 1990's.
I thought she would be a good person to tell us about A.C.E.
C's daughter Tif gave Brains a very good explanation of the programme.
They have a Year 13 Certificate that is equivalent to Cambridge A,
NCEA Level 3 and International Baccalaureate.

We needed to affiliate with a provider and C was able to tell us about the one they used.
I'd called and spoken with the Principal of Home Schooling NZ
a few days before.
I'd also started Brains and Locket on the online diagnostic tests.
One reason I was reluctant to use A.C.E. was we had used it way back in the early 1990's.
It has, thankfully, moved with the times in some ways.
Still quite old-fashioned in others.
I found some of the old workbooks or PACEs and showed them to Locket.

That afternoon round 4pm Jester & Frosty dropped off Mr Magoo.
We were looking after him till Sunday afternoon.
He settled well that night.
Next day we headed over the hill to Halfpint's BBQ birthday party.
It was from 11.30am on and we timed leaving with when Mr Magoo was ready for his nap.
We had a great time there and came home round 3pm when Mr Magoo was again in need of sleep.

Nothing of interest happened on the Sunday.
Usually I would go to church and take Mr Magoo with me.
He was pretty tired though so I decided to stay home and let him sleep.
He slept for a couple of hours.
Not long after he woke Frosty arrived to pick him up.
A busy weekend.

Monday 24 March Pa had an appointment with a skin specialist.
He has seen Dr Jennifer Pilgram in the past.
Pa has had a rash for a couple of years.
The doctor who has taken over Wadestown Medical Clinic wanted Pa to see someone who had more knowledge than her and so referred Pa to Dr Pilgram.
When Dr Pilgram examined Pa she thought the most likely condition is Ofuji Disease.
It isn't catching. Pa was prescribed Erythtomycin antibiotics and Betnovate lotion.
Both for 1 month. The antibiotic to be taken twice a day.
The Betnovate lotion to be applied twice a day.
I decided to get some gloves as I didn't want to be absorbing the lotion.
Also if a visiting nurse was applying the cream she/he would wear gloves.

Tuesday Locket finished her diagnostic tests.
She also went to do some work for Jamila, my neice-in-law who had a baby girl recently.
Levi, Jamila's husband, was away for a few days.
Jamila was wanting a bit of help with baby and the 3 older children;
Gideon, Wendi & Hosea. Little Maisy is only a few weeks old.
Although Locket doesn't think she did much Jamila was glad of the help.

Wednesday Locket had the next photography session.
This time they went to Twigland garden centre.
Lots of photos of flowers!
Convienient for us as Locket was helping Jamila again and they live very close to the centre.
I picked Locket up in time to get her to dance class.

Friday Brains finished the last of his diagnostic tests.
He went as far as he could.
He has never had to diagram a sentence though so scored low on the English.
Also not so hot on the Maths.
I knew he wouldn't so it wasn't too much of a shock.

Saturday saw me heading off to pick up Moneypenny's mum, brother and sister-in-law.
They were all going to help do some sorting out.
A-M Prof has been working long hours.
There's always a lot to do when you move into a house.
After dropping them off I went on to an Abbey meeting.
My first one, though I knew most of the people from the Chalet meetings.
J, who was hostess, loaned me some of her books.
The characters, plot and events in the book are discussed.
It's quite interesting, especially when the conversation digresses to other topics!

The one above is the one I'm currently reading.
I'm quite enjoying getting to know a whole new set of characters.

That about wraps up that couple of weeks.
I'll post this now or it will get too long!
